Kid Chameleon Redux

​Kid Chameleon (MD/GEN) is a creative platformer with a lot of neat touches to it - 10 different transformations with unique abilities, many distinct levels and well made animations are just some of them. It’s also brutally hard, sometimes in very cheap ways, which made me have a love/hate relationship with it since I played it as a kid. A major con is that it lacked any kind of save feature or way to see where you are in its huge world. These hacks attempt to improve the overall experience by introducing a level map for beaten levels, and an update to the existing SRAM hack which saves more of your progress. Beyond that, I’ve added a variety of Quality of Life features in a separate hack, such as improved controls, removed off screen enemy fire, faster transformations, six button controller support and a helmet inventory that lets the player switch between forms on the fly. Among other things. I've also created an Additional New Features hack which adds some new abilities, an idle animation for the Kid, and rebalances the boss fights with somewhat changed patterns. ​Finally, I've created a level design hack with subtle tweaks to make item collecting flow better, give access to one previously inaccessible area in one of the ice levels, replace some redundant duplicate helmets, and more. Enjoy! ​ Regarding the work process, I designed every change, caught bugs in play, chose between options in sub steps of every implementation, set exact behaviour, and did the level and graphics edits myself. The assembly code and build tools were written with Claude, which also tested changes in an emulator and were then double checked by me.
